My 5-Minute Makeup Routine

If you haven’t read my “Hello, Clean Beauty” post, I recommend doing that first so you can get a better idea of my personal makeup journey from my teens through my thirties. You’ll also learn why I love clean beauty products so much. If you’ve already read it OR if my life stories are simply of zero interest to you 😉 keep on reading for a fun look into my super quick makeup routine!

MY MAKEUP STYLE

I don’t like spending too much time getting ready, and I don’t love liquid foundation. As a result, I can confidently categorize my makeup style as medium coverage with a natural look. On days that I wear makeup my routine is fairly simple and takes less than five minutes. I use an SPF based moisturizer after cleansing and apply the following items in the order listed below:

1. Powder Foundation
2. Concealer (mainly under my eyes)
3. Pressed Powder Blush
4. Pressed Powder Highlighter (applied to my eyelids only for a faint shimmer)
5. Mascara

THE BRANDS I’M CURRENTLY WEARING

1. ALIMA PURE Satin Matte Foundation > Warm 5
Review: My first purchase after quitting bareMinerals was the praised “Un” Cover-Up by RMS. Although I loved the clean ingredients, I found the coverage to be much too light and the consistency to be a bit too oily for my combination skin. Once I finished my jar of RMS, I tested out Alima Pure’s foundation and quickly fell in love with the coverage and familiar application process from my years of using loose powder foundation. I have zero complaints about this phenomenal product and have been happily using Alima Pure’s satin matte foundation since 2018.

2. W3LL PEOPLE Bio Correct Concealer > Medium
Review: This concealer has a nice consistency and does a good job at lightening my dark under eye circles and the occasional acne blemish. A little goes a long way which makes this tiny 0.25 ounce tube last forever. My only complaint is that my tube developed a tiny whole at the base of the plastic nozzle causing the product to exit from a lower spot than desired. It’s annoying, but I’ve managed to work around it. Despite this small flaw, it doesn’t change my opinion about the concealer itself.

3. LILY LOLO Pressed Blush > In The Pink
Review: I purchased this product at the recommendation of a Detox Market employee in the summer of 2019 when the Kosas blush I was looking to replenish was currently out of stock. The consistency is nice, and the color is long lasting. I also love how the actual compact is so thin & lightweight. It fits perfectly in my tiny makeup bag.

4. KOSAS Color & Light Palette Powder Blush and Highlighter > Longitude Zero Cool Pink Powder
Review: I never wear a highlighter but bought this palette in 2018 because I loved the blush color so much. I ended up using the champagne colored highlighter on my cheeks about a dozen times before I started using it on my eyelids. When the blush portion ran out in 2019, I continued using the highlighter portion on my lids as the perfect daytime eyeshadow. It blends wonderfully into my skin and provides a subtle sparkle that I absolutely love. Please note that the blush and shadow are a bit brighter & lighter than the link shows. Check out the Kosas website for a more accurate depiction of the color.

5. PACIFICA Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara > Supernova
Review: I have been using this mascara for quite some time after discovering it at Whole Foods well over 5 years ago. I last purchased this product at Target though when I randomly stumbled upon it in their clean beauty aisle in 2019.

ON DAYS THAT I’M FEELING FANCY…

I wear eyeshadow from a bareMinerals palette called The Playlist that probably doesn’t exist anymore & a Too Faced palette that a friend gifted me for my birthday who knows how many years ago. My go to eyeliner for the past 5+ years is Pacifica’s jet black pencil because it applies easily to my lids. And on the very rare occasion that I’m in the mood to pretty up my pout, I use some Nars lipstick pencils that I received as a Sephora gift many moons ago. And when I say rare occasion, I literally mean that I wear lipstick once or twice a year. I love a red lip on others but rarely rock the look myself. And yes, I’m plenty aware that these Nars lip pencils don’t fall under the clean beauty category, but I wear them so infrequently and hate wasting – that I’ve just kept them around in the off chance that I’ll be in the mood for some lip color. I’ll probably get rid of them soon and will definitely let you know when I purchase a cleaner lipstick down the road.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST

You can find the Alima Pure, W3ll People, Lily Lolo, & Kosas products that I use all at The Detox Market. The Santa Monica location is one of my favorite places to roam when I’m not spending hours perusing their online store. If you haven’t guessed it already, The Detox Market has been my go to one-stop-shop for all things clean makeup and beyond for the past two and a half years. I hope you enjoy browsing through their thoughtfully sourced beauty products just as much as I do.
