It has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life to have sprinkled small flecks of my own crafting passion into the weddings of so many loved ones & even a handful of strangers over the past decade. If you read my first Wedding Post, you’ll remember that I segued into event planning after years of creating handwritten invitations, signage, escort cards, and more for family and friends. Handmade elements add so much warmth & charm to a ceremony and reception. Even when I’m completely uninvolved in the design process, my favorite weddings always include these special, one-of-a-kind pieces that you won’t see anywhere else.
CASUAL BEAUTY
The bar sign below, in addition to the card sign above, were just two of the items I made for the wedding of some close friends in 2018.
I love the card sign because it’s an example of simplicity at it’s finest. Gold ink and a rustic chalkboard have never looked more elegant in my opinion. I hope this sign reminds all of the DIY couples out there that you don’t need an intricate design or an expensive chalkboard to create a classically beautiful look. All you need is twenty bucks and a friend with nice penmanship if either of yours isn’t the best.
This signature cocktail menu, however, is a bit more detailed and did take me a touch longer than the five minutes I dedicated to the aforementioned chalkboard. The bride and her father made this stunning pressed flower, acrylic wonder along with two others not pictured. The materials used were plexiglass panels, a drill, metal fasteners, and vibrant handpicked blossoms. All I did was offer up my handwriting and basic illustration skills. In all my years of arts and crafts, I think this sign may just be the prettiest things I’ve ever helped create.

WINE COUNTRY ROMANCE
I made this welcome drink sign for my college roommate’s Napa Valley wedding back in 2016 along with a variety of other pieces. I bought the chalkboard years prior and was excited to finally use it. The vintage style frame matched the romantic vibe of her black tie, vineyard celebration just perfectly. My favorite thing about this sign though is that I also wrote the content which made it extra original, very personal, and such a fun way to greet guests. It’s a great reminder that unique adages specific to the couple are just as memorable as fancy lettering if your goal is to create one-of-a-kind wedding signage.

UPSCALE GARDEN PARTY
I created quite a few handwritten elements for my cousin’s wedding in September 2015. If I had to choose my favorite pieces, it would be the ceremony chalkboard & the guestbook sign since they were both so colorful, elegant, and simple in their messaging. They were a great addition to this indoor/outdoor soiree.

TRADITIONAL BALLROOM
These were a few of the chalkboard signs that I made for the 2017 wedding of a dear friend from high school. If you are stuck figuring out the color scheme of your signage – you can never go wrong with plain, white ink and standard black chalkboards. This look is classic, matches everything, and pops in all types of lighting.
