ACURE: Skincare Review

I first learned about Acure while strolling the hair care aisle of Whole Foods well over a decade ago. I quickly fell in love with their Curiously Clarifying Shampoo & Conditioner made with Lemongrass & Argan plus the cool rectangular bottles that they used to come in. Both of these products were so lovely that I even had visiting houseguests compliment them. Years later, I became intrigued by Acure’s skincare products when I started noticing them at both Whole Foods and the Santa Monica Co-op. Since then, the brand has blown up and can now be found at Target and big name grocery stores to name a few. And now after all this time, I FINALLY decided to try out their clean, skincare line. Please keep reading for my honest review.

Resurfacing Glycolic & Unicorn Root Cleanser

  • The Verdict: As mentioned in some of my previous clean beauty posts, I don’t particularly gravitate toward cream cleansers. However, this Acure face wash has such great reviews that I decided to give it a whirl for its exfoliating properties. The unscented formula is thick and creamy but suds up nicely once applied onto wet skin. A tiny amount really goes a long way which makes this giant, sparkly tube quite a deal. Once rinsed, my face is literally left feeling squeaky clean which indicates that the ingredients are working hard to tackle my dull skin which I have plenty of during these colder months. Sometimes my skin can feel a touch tight after using this cleanser, but once I moisturize that tightness quickly goes away. Because this cleanser contains AHAs in the form of both lactic acid & glycolic acid – it’s important to remember to wear sunscreen while using this product since it can possibly make your skin more sensitive than usual. Here is a list of all-natural sunscreen recommendations just in case you don’t already have a favorite SPF. And if you do have sensitive skin or sunburn easily, I highly recommend only using this cleanser at night or just a few times a week since Alpha Hydroxy Acids can be quite powerful. Last but not least, you may be asking, “Does this unicorn root cleanser remove makeup?” I tend to use an oil cleanser prior to my face wash when removing makeup, but for the sake of experimentation I used the cleanser alone, and it removed 95% of my makeup which was quite impressive! Overall – I’d say this face wash is definitely worth a try especially because of the great price!

Ultra Hydrating Plant Ceramide Daily Facial Lotion

  • The Verdict: I specifically chose this moisturizer from Acure’s extensive line since we are in the thick of autumn and approaching winter. I wanted a product that would moisturize my skin during these cold, dry months, and this lotion definitely gets the job done. The plant ceramides help lock in moisture, and the Niacinamide assists in the process. The formula itself is unscented and absorbs nicely into my skin. A dime-size amount goes a long way. And since this day cream doesn’t have any SPF [something I highly encourage] – I wear a natural sunscreen over it on days spent outside. I currently have so much sunscreen that I did not want to purchase yet another, but will absolutely write a review of Acure’s SPF products down the road when I get an opportunity to try one out.

Brightening Night Cream

  • The Verdict: I have been wanting to try Acure’s brightening line for years, but have never taken the plunge until now. Usually, I tend to purchase skincare products within the same line, but as you can see from the color of the packaging, I chose items from 3 of Acure’s different skincare collections. There is a Brightening Day Cream, but since I personally enjoy using restorative formulas in the evening, I went with their night time option. The formula itself is nice and thick which is perfect for the fall and winter season. The cream also has a lovely, light citrus scent which provides great aromatherapy effects while winding down after a long day. The lotion absorbs quickly, and I am left with soft supple skin when I wake up the morning. Fingers crossed – the argan oil, avocado, chlorella, echinacea, and evening primrose continue to work their magic while I sleep to leave my skin as bright and glowing as can be!

    1. Hi Kate,

Thanks so much for your question!

Age spots are typically caused by the sun – so my first recommendation would be to always wear a Daily SPF to avoid as much exposure to Ultra Violet light if you are not already doing so. You can check out this previous blog post of mine for some great clean sunscreen recommendations: https://homemadeinla.blog/2024/07/03/the-best-mineral-sunscreens-2024-edition/

Secondly, hyperpigmentation is a tough problem to battle, and I myself deal with frustrating, discoloration and scarring. Regular use of Vitamin C, bakuchiol (a natural retinol), and natural AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) are great at reducing the appearance of dark spots. Take a look at some of the serums website links below:

      COCOKIND’S Chlorophyll Discoloration Serum > https://shrsl.com/4nix1

Last but not least, if you’re trying to stick with Acure Products – I went on their website, and they do have a Brightening Vitamin C & Ferulic Acid Serum that sounds promising. I have yet to try it myself, but the reviews look good. Here is the link: https://acure.com/products/brightening-vitamin-c-ferulic-acid-serum

I hope this helps!! And if you’re looking for professional advice, it’s always best to consult with a licensed dermatologist.
